Dr. Seong teaches spring and summer sessions of GE 206 which most of the Civil and Mechanical Engineering students need to take at least once in their engineering career.   He also taught CE 350 and CE 440 every fall semester since 1995.   The other courses were taught every other years as the need rose due to graduate program.   In addition to the teaching duty he serves as the Director of Masters Degree in Civil Engineering, adviser for ASCE Student Chapter, member of the Engineering and Science Building Steering Committee, and Student Scholarship Committee.  

 

Dr. Seong received BS and MS degrees in Architectural Engineering from the Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea, 1970 and 1975.   After three years teaching at Ulsan Institute of Technology, he came to US to study civil engineering at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania 1979 and earned Ph. D degree in Structural Engineering 1983.   He was a senior structural engineer for Arvid Grant Associate Inc., Olympia, WA and Yooshin Engineering Corporation, Seoul, Korea before joining Saint Martin's College.  He has over 30 years experience of professional engineering practice: design of steel office tower, rehabilitation of old hotel and hospital building, condition evaluation of Tacoma Narrows Bridge, failure investigation of Sung-Su Bridge in Seoul, Korea, construction supervision of New Haeng-Ju Bridge, Seoul, Korea, design of grade separation of 4th avenue, Tacoma, WA, and etc.     His interests are in the fatigue and fracture problems in steel bridges, finite element analysis, forensic investigation of structural failure and bridge engineering.
