I
have been quilting for about 20 years but still have not achieved much
of a state of proficiency. I forgive
myself for such inadequacies and forge ahead. I will never win a
prize for my quilts. I will never enter them
in any kind of contest or display them at a quilt show. I do enjoy
working on them.
But, even
more, I enjoy the wonderful women I have met in my guilds. I
belong to two guilds in Olympia, Washington. One is called
Washington Stars Quilt Guild. It is a large guild with about 170
members give or take a few. I am the secretary of the guild.
I have been doing this job for a couple of years now.
In conjunction
with WSQG, I belong to two small bees - one is called Sewciety Girls.
I don't meet with them often as they meet during the day while I work.
The other one is called Evening Stars because they meet in the evening.
The focus in Evening Stars is hand quilting. I am hoping to get
better at this and actually, someday, finish the quilt from the first
quilting class I took about 20 years ago in Pt. Angeles. Of course
I now do not like the fabric choices for this quilt but I am determined
to finish it sometime.
The other guild I
belong to is called Quilter's Quorum. It is a smaller guild that
limits membership to 50. It meets one Saturday a month and is
low key.
Both WSQG and QQ
have a retreat once a year. WSQG is in May and QQ is in August.
Both retreats are at a retreat center near Roy, Washington. Each
retreat is 2 - 3 nights long. They are great fun and extremely
productive.
I have not taken
pictures of my own quilts so I am substituting pictures of quilts that
are similar to what I have done.
