RLS
302: Comparative Religion Respond to two of the following six questions with an essay of one-and-a-half to two pages each. Be sure to indicate quotations and to document quotations and ideas derived from other sources with a brief parenthetical note. The test is open-book, open-note, and you may judiciously draw upon your books and notes in your discussion, but be sure that your final product is your own work. You may discuss the test with anyone prior to taking it, but do not discuss it with anyone while taking it. Remember to demonstrate on the test what you have learned by reading and through participation in the class. The test is due Monday, May 8 at 5:00 PM under the professor’s office door. 1. Write about the religion we have studied this semester upon which your views have undergone the greatest change. Discuss what it is that you have learned that has caused this change and why. 2. What makes a book holy? Discuss in terms of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. 3. Who is God? Discuss from the perspectives of the three Abrahamic faiths. 4. Compare and contrast the creation hymns from the Vedas and the Bible. Discuss the perspective that you would use to interpret both. 5. Is the conflict over Jerusalem a problem of space or a human problem? How would you suggest resolving it? 6. Compare and contrast the role of humanity in three of the religions we have studied this semester. What difference would each role make for how one lived? |
