Amber Pain ... Or

Copyright By Dan Windisch 6/22/00

Captured amber moments ... of frozen trauma...

Examined often ...Examined gingerly...

Like a bloody tooth socket ... Tongue touched ...

After the novocaine wears off.

Torn, traumatic, bloody, pained MEMORIES ...

Either held in amber,

denied, forgotten, ignored ...

become self defining moments...

Or

Are Felt ...

with tears, anger, sorrow ...

and finally ... set we free.

The key is what you/slash/ I do...

With past/slash/present P-A-I-N.

Buried in amber,

Dissociated, ignored, forgotten,

past pain festers.

If pain becomes the defining moment of I-ness.,

“I am a victim” - “That ís who I am” defines me.

If anger and bitterness is all there is.

Then life and growth is denied.

Overwhelming pain felt and released ...

Is no longer overwhelming ...

Becomes less pain ... becomes a lessering,  becomes less festering pain ...

over time.

Life then grows ...

Sounds of crickets, sounds of joy,

Drowned out by unexpressed pain’s silent screams ...

Can now be heard.

Life grows ... Life now flows.
