Faculty Exchange to China
Five faculty members from St.
Martin's travelled to Sichuan Province in the
heart of China to teach English to Chinese
children and make some connections with Chinse
education officials.
Here I am with
Dr. Jim Harmon, of Saint Martin's Engineering, at the Opening Ceremonies of the
English Summer Camp in Deyang, Sichuan Province,
China. It was a great beginning to a great
five-weeks.
Teaching the marvelous children
was one of the joys of my life. What eagerness to
learn. They were innocent and sweet. It was
really fun.
I'm pointing at "Bob"
(Anglicized name). We were sure he would
eventually become the Premier of the People's
Republic one day! Next to him is Andy, another
gem. The little girls are Lucy and wonderful
Daisy (far right). What wonderful children!
Next to the children, my favorite
thing was the incredible Sichuan food! Our last luncheon in Deyang
featured 21 different (and delicious) dishes.
Incredible!
This
"chicken soup," complete with a chicken
head with a ginko bean in his beak, was one of
the more unusual looking dishes. (And, yes, we
ate the soup....)
