About Devon L. Ellis

Devon, our oldest son, was born in Provo, Utah while we were working on my master's degree at BYU. He has an incredibly quick wit and has kept us laughing since he was just a baby. He is also extremely intelligent. As a baby, he did everything early, except walk. And when he finally started to walk, he did so with a limp. We discovered he had a congenital dislocated hip, which meant operations and months in a spika cast. That was a very traumatic period of time, both for him and for us, his parents.

The cute picture on the right shows him in his Halloween costume one year. We were living in Oklahoma at the time and he was around seven years old.

When the Lechevallier family came to visit us in 1996 (see "They Visit Us"), he had only had a couple of years of high school French and only knew a few words. But, during their visit, he picked up French so fast, he joined the rest of us at conversational level in less than a week! It was an amazing experience too watch someone blossom into language competence that fast.

Devon's life, however, is not centered around writing, but around computers. He has always had a natural ability with them. In 1993 he completed an internship at Microsoft where he worked as a software test engineer. Then, in 1995, he was not only promoted to the position of software design engineer but given his choice of two paid internships. The photo on the left shows his office at Microsoft in Redmond.

Devon is also an incredible writer. He has written a couple of poems that have not only dazzled us, but reduced us to tears. He wrote a tribute to me on my 50th birthday that I can't read without tearing up. Devon is working on his first science fiction novel and we really hope he finishes it and gets it published.

Devon completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from St. Martin's College in 1996. He currently works for another software development company located in Lacey, WA. The company, named Engineered Software specializing in producing software that analyzes and facilitates all kinds of pipe setups -- from oil and gases to the food industry. He is one of the main programmers of the "Pipe-Flo" series and the brains behind the interface of most of their products. Devon is truly a computer whiz. In the photo above, he's sitting at his crowded desk at Engineered Software (and wearing his company's sweatshirt).

As we said, Devon is able to work locally and we are very grateful for that. And, at only 26 years old, he is already a homeowner. Above is a photo of his attractive home. It is only a short walk from our own house.
