4.  Three Paintings as Gifts

Over the next couple of years, I painted a few more paintings.

The first one I want to show you was a present for my brother, Barry.  He lives in Central Alberta, in farming country and loves antique cars.  I tried to put the two themes together showing an old derelict auto and a rustic barn on a stormy Alberta farm.  I framed it in a simple oak frame and he hung it in his office at DETAC Corporation in Innisfail..

I wanted to paint something for my father and asked him what he would like.  He replied that a favorite spot of his was Gig Harbor.  So, I guess I asked for it.  I came up with the painting below, but I only painted the smallest fraction of the many, many boats in the harbor.  He liked the picture and hung it in his living room until he died in 1999, when it was sent back to me.  It's now in our entry hall and I often think I should get back to it and paint more boats!.

Oh, I suppose that I should include another painting that I did for Dad as a gift.  It was an earlier one, in oils, and I never much cared for it.  It's not worth making it any larger than the photograph of him holding it.
