Three More
Painting Gifts
The
painting to the right is the Idaho Falls Temple. I painted it as a
gift for Alton and Denise Alexander (although I allowed them to pay for the
attractive frame -- framing is usually the most expensive part of this hobby!)
They were married in this temple so it has special significance for them
as a couple. They were very pleased to get it.
My sister, Wendy, married in
1992 and we wanted to have a nice wedding gift to give them. Her
favorite flower is the dogwood. After going back and forth on what
we could do for her, I tried something else I had never done before.
I decided to use an abstract, impressionistic background. Then I
painted a sprig of dogwood over the top. To make it even more
dramatic, I painted the gray mat. That way, I could have the leaves
of the dogwood branch actually come right out of the picture and overlap
on top of the mat. Here is the painting. You can see if you
like the way it turned out.
The
final painting I'll show you here is an older one that I did for Merry's
mother. The mountain turned out but I don't like the foreground
bushes at all. I find bushes very difficult to do.
On
the next page, I'll show three paintings that I gave to the Lechevallier
family -- our good friends in Paris, France (see Sabbatical
in France).
