For the 2005-2006 year the chapter is looking to increase its role and visibility around both the campus and the community. We will continue to grow interest in the chapter’s goals and mission by actively seeking associate members for mentoring and grooming for future leadership roles within the chapter and the engineering department.
The Alpha Tau chapter during the last year facilitated opening of a new engineering tutoring center and study room, where our members also took an active roll in helping staff the center.
The Alpha Tau chapter helped in the YMCA’s Youth Fitness day by design, constructed, and supervised an obstacle course for the participating children. We sponsored an annual golf outing to increase the fellowship of members and alumni and faculty.
We sent 3 student delegates to the annual convention to increase the connection of the Alpha Tau chapter with the national organization.
We designed fund raising T-shirts for three different occasions: 2005 and 2006 American Society of Mechanical Engineers conference, which won the T-shirt competition in 2005; and for the Women in Science aned Engineering (W.I.S.E.) summer camp program we hold at S.M.U. as a memento for the prospective engineers of the future.
We held twice monthly meetings throughout the scholastic year increasing member participation and involvement.
We assisted the student chapter of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) host their regional conference.
We increased involvement with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers by co-sponsoring a trip to the American Le Mans Portland grand Prix over the summer.
We orchestrated a farewell Bar-B-Q for the engineering department administrative staff.
