Math Placement Exam

The purpose of the Math Placement Exam is to help you choose an appropriate math class.  The results of the exam are advisory only.  When you meet with your advisor later today, he or she will have our recommendations for appropriate math classes for you based on your performance on this exam.  If you feel that your performance on the exam does not fairly represent your mathematical ability, you can elect to take math courses other than those we recommend.

Who Should Take This Exam

The only students who should not take this exam are students who are planning to fulfill the College's math general degree requirement by taking MTH 110 (Math and Modern Culture), a course which has no math prerequisites.  If your intended major carries math requirements (beyond the general degree requirement), you should take the exam.   If you plan to fulfill the general degree requirement by taking statistics, you should take the exam,  However, you may not need to take all sections of the exam.

What Parts of the Exam Should You Take?

Section 1 of the exam (algebra) is for everybody.

Section 2 (in addition to Section 1) is for Business, Science and Engineering students.

Section 3 (in addition to Sections 1 and 2) is for Science and Engineering students.
