Exploration (1 class period, about 45 min):

Procedure:

  1. Present the “Optical Illusions” power point presentation.Allow students to look at the illusions and discuss them in their cooperative groups.

  2. Draw a sample web on the overhead and have each group “web” things they know about eyes.

  3. Ask students prompting questions to help them develop a web “How do our eyes work?, What do our eyes do for us?”

  4. Allow each group to present their web to the class.  Post each web on the bulletin board.  As each group presents, add ideas to the class web on the overhead using correct and appropriate terminology.

Closure and Evaluation: (1 class period - 45 min)

  1. Assess students by moving around the room and listening to the groups discuss and answer the WebQuest.

  2. Collect the WebQuest notes and WebQuest evaluation and grade according to specified rubrics.

  3. Also grade for accuracy in spelling and grammar.   Put the class web back on the overhead.  Ask the class to discuss which areas and questions from the webbing were covered in class “What did we learn?”.  Add any new topics learned to the web.  Ask the students what topics we did not cover that they would like to know more about and make a list.  If there is time, discuss some of the topics students would like to know more about.  Use prompting questions to allow students to figure out answers for themselves.
