ASCA Ethical Standards Section A.9 Section E of the ACA Code of Ethics Notes
A.9 Evaluation, Assessment, and Interpretation The professional school counselor:
· Must comply with all professional practices concerning all aspects of assessment measures. · Explain assessment and evaluation measures in a way that the students can understand and comprehend. · Does not misuse assessment results and uses precautionary steps to prevent others from misusing the information. · Uses caution when facilitating assessments, evaluations, or interpreting students performance.
Section E: Evaluation, Assessment, and Interpretation
· Recognize the need to interpret the statements that apply to appraisal techniques. · Promote the welfare and best interest of students in using assessment tools or techniques. · Recognize the limits of competence and perform only testing and assessment services for which counselors have been trained. · Release data in which the client is identified only with the consent of the client or parent/guardian. · Be culturally sensitive and recognize that culture affects the manner in which clients’ problems are defined. · Do not permit unsupervised or inadequately supervised use of tests or assessments unless it is intended otherwise. · Maintain the integrity and security of tests and assessments by not reproducing or modify tests unless permission by the publisher. · Make every effort to prevent misuse of obsolete measures and test data by others. |
