Child Abuse: The Perfect Crime

 

 

·        In dealing with child abuse, most of the time and money is spent on after the abuse has already happened.

·        More time and money needs to be spent on the prevention of child abuse.

·        There are three types of people who abuse children: inadequate, crazy and evil.

·        Inadequate people need education and have the best chance to be rehabilitated

·        Crazy people need psychiatric care in order to be rehabilitated.

·        Evil people are not capable of receiving help or treatment.

·        Children that are abused usually become abusive parents.

·        Drugs and alcohol play a huge part in children being abused.         

·        Child abuse can be hard to prove in criminal court, that’s why children are perfect victims.

·        Many schools educate children on abuse and encourage them to recognize it and report it.

·        Safe Child Program is a primary prevention program that is effective in elementary schools.

·        Putting abusers in jail can decrease the abuse when they are released.

·        Removing the child from home may be the only way to protect the child from abuse.

·        25% of American homes conceal violence.

·        50% of abusive partners will abuse children as well.

·        Parent Aid helps rehabilitate abusive parents. They teach the parents parenting skills and are available to be reached on the phone anytime.

·        Laws on child abuse are created to help rehabilitate families.

·        Girls are more at risk for abuse but boys are underreported.

·        25% of girls are sexually abused by the age of 18.

·        10% of boys are sexually abused by the age of 18.

·        Male victims are the last to come forward because they are ashamed, embarrassed and insecure about their masculinity.

·        Perpetrators usually deny the abuse or say it was a mistake or accident.

·        Physicians need to perform a physical exam to record signs of the crime and to check for STDs or other damage.

·        If you are going to put your child in a daycare be aware of: constant change of personnel, not being allowed to make unannounced visits or the staff takes the child out of daycare without permission.

·        Currently there is a national pedophile registry in the United States.

·        Encourage parents to listen to their children, verbally and non-verbally.

·        Always believe the child.

·        Trust your feelings, if something feels wrong it probably is.
