Reaction paper on Steilacoom’s Disaster Guide
Steilacoom’s disaster guide provides great information on how local resources can aid a school in a time of crisis. The website gives some great links and articles to help schools and students in a time of disaster although half of the links listed are no longer available and need to be updated. In this day and time, disaster plans need to be continually updated and accessible to schools. Their approach to helping those in crisis is similar to a homeland security threat. Steilacoom believes that a schools crisis response plan is one of the most essential aspects of comprehensive safe school plan. Some of the links include: OSPI: http://www.k12.wa.us/SafetyCenter/ Red Cross: http://www.redcross.org/services/disaster/ Washington State Emergency Management Division: http://access.wa.gov/ Federal Homeland Security Department: http://www.ready.gov/ Steilacoom’s website also provides a couple of links with great information and articles concerning times of crisis for school counselors, parents and students. Some of the links include: National Association of School Psychologists: http://www.nasponline.org/NEAT/tragicevents.html Federal Emergency Management Agency: http://www.fema.gov/kids/nse/
