Introduction Task Process Resources Evaluation Conclusion
Today we will be taking a journey to another part of the world. It is a place that is surrounded by water, which we call an island. The bodies of water that surround this island are the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. It is in a tropical region where the temperature stays warm year round. One of the official languages is Spanish and the capital city is San Juan. Have you figured out where I'm talking about? If you haven't guessed yet, here is the answer.........It's Puerto Rico!! Some of the topics we will be learning about relating to Puerto Rico are geography, history, and some recreational resources to make our trip a little more exciting. Get ready for a fun journey through Puerto Rico.
Instead of just doing the typical research paper on Puerto Rico, as a class we will create an informational guide about Puerto Rico. Each student will research a specific city on the island and provide general facts about that city such as location, population, and history. The students will also find information on a recreational activity that can be done in that city. Students may use pictures from magazines or the internet to glue and paste into their brochure. The final result will be a mini brochure on a particular city in Puerto Rico.
Day 1 - Each student will select a city on Puerto Rico and find out information on that particular city.
Each student will provide the following information regarding the city of their choosing:
City Government
Population
How long city has been in existence
All students will need to include a flag of Puerto Rico in the brochure.
Day 2 - Students will prepare a map of Puerto Rico with the bodies of water surrounding the island and city of their choice labeled correctly.
Students will search the internet and magazines for images that can be used to include in their brochure. This will be information that is relevant to their city or to Puerto Rico.
The following are a list of web sites that may be used in the search for information on Puerto Rico:

What an exciting trip to Puerto Rico. I hope you enjoyed learning about the geography of the various cities, the history, as well as, the recreational resources of Puerto Rico. Traveling to new places and learning new things can be exhausting, but a lot of fun. My wish is that this new information on the island will be stored and used later on in the future. Even better, would be to actually visit Puerto Rico and see first hand what was studied. Now that's what active learning is all about.
