Lesson Plan #1

Teacher name: Robin Frasier

Grade: 3rd

Lesson Title: What is an endangered species?

Learning Targets (objectives):

·        After listening to the lecture the students will be able to identify what an endangered species is

·        After watching the video the students will be able to draw  a buffalo

Assessment Strategies:

The teacher will watch the students to see if they are paying attention, and then listen to the students explain what an endangered species is and examples of a few. Then the students will draw a picture of a buffalo and turn the pictures into the teacher to check off and grade on a scale 1-4.

Grouping of students for instructions:

At the beginning of the lesson the students will be at their desk listen to the teacher explain what an endangered species with by using a power point presentation. Then the students will sit on the carpet to watch a video about bison “Legend of the Bison” (25min.). After the video the students will go back to their desk and make the bison book, and draw a picture of a bison to be places in the book.

Special Accommodations:

Students that need special accommodations will be paired up with another student to help with work and read material to them. Then students that are developmentally delayed shorten those assignments by having them work on 5 of the 10 assignments for the bison book. 

Instructional Materials, Resources, and Technology:

·        Power point presentation

·        Video “Legend of the Bison”

·        KWLH chart

·        White and color paper

Time:

The lesson will take 1 hour and 10 minutes. The KWLH chart and video will take 35 minutes, and then the making the book will take 15 minute, the last activity drawing the bison picture will take 20 minutes.

- Students will listen to the teacher explain new vocabulary word that relate to endangered species

- Students will use the new vocabulary when explaining endangered animals

- Teacher will observe the students listening to the new vocabulary word

- Teacher to student (teacher will listen to the students discuss the endangered bison and other species

Reading 2.1.4- Apply comprehension monitoring strategies before, during, and after reading: use prior knowledge/schema.

- Students will answer question about the video while watching

- Students will discuss endangered species after the video

- Teacher will ask the students question during the video and listen for comprehension

- Teacher will collect drawings of the bison and book that students make

Social Studies H2.1.1- Explain how an idea has affected the way people live

- Students will discuss how the bison were affected by people

 

- Teacher will collect the paper of the students ideas of how the bison were affected by people

Lesson Title: Where have the animals gone (endangered species)

Learning Targets (objectives):

·        After the lecture and demonstration the students will be able to name at least 5 different endangered species

·         After the teacher demonstration to the class the students will be able to place at least 5 of the different endangered animals where they live

Assessment Strategies:

The students will name different endangered species and where they live during class, and then they will be working on a web quest by finding information on the endangered specie the bison.

Grouping of students for instructions:

At the beginning of the lesson the students will be at their seats listening about the different endangered species and directions for the rest of activity, and then the students will be in small groups of 3-4 to work on the activity.

Special Accommodations:

Students that need special accommodations will be paired up with another student to help with work and read material to them. Then students that are developmentally delayed shorten those assignments by having them work on 5 of the 10 assignments for the bison book. 

Instructional Materials, Resources, and Technology:

·        Poster of different endangered animals

·        Poster of different environments

·        Worksheets for web quest

·        Web quest

·        Information books about endangered animals

Time:

Total time for lesson will be 1 hour and 10 minutes. The instruction will take 25 minutes, and then the activities will take 45 minutes.

- Students will work together in a group on web quest

- Teacher will observe if the students are working together and everyone is involved

- Teacher will collect a worksheet from each student from the web quest

Social Studies: G 1.2.1a- Locate places, major physical features, and human spatial patterns using maps, globes, and other sources

- Students will listen as the teacher discuss where other endangered animals live

- Students will work inn groups and place endangered animals into groups of where they live

- Teacher will observe if the students are paying attention to the different endangered animals

Science 1.1.1- Identify and describe a property of an object. Sort common materials and objects using a simple property.

- Students will learn a few of the different endangered animals and where they live

 

- Teacher will observe the students working on the web quest

- Teacher will collect worksheet and check off for completion

- Teacher to student assessment (teacher listen to students name the endangered animals and where they live)
