This course will involve homework assignments almost daily, and half of the points on those assignments will be earned simply by completing the assignments on time. Late homework will not be accepted, unless due to an excused absence. Students should get notes and assignments prior to pre-planned absences, and turn in assignments on the first day back in class. If a student cannot complete a homework assignment due to a lack of understanding of the material, that student should communicate that to me at the earliest possible moment—I will be flexible about allowing extra time for those who come to me for extra help.
Extra credit assignments will occasionally be offered.
Students should keep a well-organized notebook that includes a section containing definitions of all vocabulary words in the text, and notes on example problems and concepts presented in class. Surprise notebook quizzes will be given occasionally, so organization is important.
Missed tests can be made up only in the case of an excused absence, and test retakes will be allowed if the score is below a D (60%). There will be a comprehensive final exam at the end of each semester, on which students will be allowed to use book and notes.

*Excused absences will not lower a student’s grade. A student will lose both of the day’s attendance points for an unexcused absence, and one point for an unexcused tardy.
Parents will be notified if a student’s grade falls below 73%. It is the student’s responsibility to ask for help if he or she is having difficulty with the material.
Rules
No food, drink, or gum in the classroom. Water is allowed.
No swearing or inappropriate conversations will be permitted.
Writing on the desks or walls will result in an hour spent cleaning desks, and anything else that needs to be cleaned.
Talking or writing notes during a test or quiz will result in a score of 0%, with no possibility of a retake, as well as at least one hour of detention.
