Lesson Objective: After thoroughly searching the Internet, the student will be able to list at least six real-life uses of mathematics.
Congratulations! You’ve successfully completed the lesson on parabolas. But are you wondering why you need to learn this? I mean, math can be pretty complicated stuff, right? And how often will you need to add fractions, solve inequalities, or graph parabolas in real life, anyway?
Well, let’s find out! Your mission, should you choose to accept:

· When you believe that you have enough information about the real-life uses of math, either in careers or just in everyday life, it’s time to choose how to represent your findings. Some options:
§ Write a 2 – 5 page essay listing at least six real-life uses for math, with cover page and works cited page, including at least 4 sources.
§ Make a colorful poster or banner, at least 6 ft² in area, using text and illustrations to show at least 6 real-life uses of math. Include a 1” margin around all sides of the poster/banner, and be sure to check your spelling before you add your text.
§ Give a 7 – 10 minute oral presentation, using 3 or more visual aids, to list at least 6 real-life uses of math. Remember to project your voice so that the whole class can hear you!
§ Give a 4 – 6 minute PowerPoint presentation, using 6 – 10 slides (and explaining the slides to your audience), listing at least 6 real-life uses of math.

· Go online to http://www.google.com and search for math uses (maybe even careers). Also, check out the following sites:

Now that you've successfully completed your mission, it's time to debrief (share what you've learned):
I will return all graded products, and then the class will spend a period de-briefing on the Web Quest process. We will discuss:
What worked well?
What didn’t, and how could the process be improved?
Interesting things you learned.
Your suggestions for a new WebQuest.
