CTRL W = Close window

In search bar type in “link:????” this will give you all sites that are linked to ?????

CTRL P = Print

Google has calculator functions

+ add, - subtract, * multiply, and /divide

CTRL N = New Page

Can figure out percents, 67 % of 1234-enter

Click on Blue strip on navigator bare to maximize screen

When searching for images.  Click on the thumbnail before downloading, cutting, etc.

World Wide Web Boot Camp Gems

I.     Internet Explorer Tips

A.    dc=double click dc on blue bar at top to minimize or maximize window

B.    "jump" right to the address bar, press F6

C.    Address bar

1.    click anwhere in address bar to turn address blue (to select it) then just start typing address. It will replace what was selected.

2.    for .com sites, select current address, type in "schoolcounselor" then hold down ctrl key and press enter. IE will go to www.schoolcounselor.com. try "amazon" ctrl enter.

3.    use dropdown menus (little black triangle) to the right of back and forward to quicky go to previous pages! Also can use dropdown menu to right of address bar.

4.    quick way to set new homepage. go to the site. drag the IE icon before the address onto the Home Icon above. Click yes to change homepage.

5.    Left click on Links (rightmost after address bar) and drag down. To add button to links go to website and  drag the IE icon before the address down to links. To delete links, rc (right click) on icon and select delete.

D.    Printing Web Pages

1.    to print only a selection of a web page, first highlight or block the selection with your mouse, click on File, Print, and then choose Selection (under the Page Range part of the menu), then Print.

2.    File > Print Preview to see how it will print.

3.    to remove background colors and images, go to tools>internet options>advanced options tab and click in cencked box next to "Print background colors and images" and click "OK" to remove it.

II.    Goggle & Search Engine Tips

A.    Use quotes around words that are next to each other on websites you want to find!!!! Otherwise any occurence of the words anywhere on the site will result in a hit.

B.    shift + tilde (above the tab key) to find synonyms of word that follow. ex. "school counseling" ~discipline will find synonyms of discipline .

C.    Wildcard. asterick (shift* 8) means rel\place me with any letter or more than 1 letter. ex. counsel* would include counnselor or counseling.

D.    On Google results page. cached shows page when last checked by google (nice if website is not now available). "similar pages" is really nice to find related pages.

E.     When at a search result page it is good to "open in a new window" by shift-clicking on first link you are going to.

F.     http://www.any-book-in-print.com/ is a great site for bibliotherapy ideas and books! Check out the "Sepcial Problems" and "Counseling" tabs!
