- Individual Counseling to work on individualized

- Elementary kids have limited communication skill, may
benefit from play or observation
- During play therapy, trust and rapport develop
- Communication, behavioral maturity and cognitive
development help to make successful counseling sessions
- Groups: formed by common concerns
- Referral of a student:
- Status of progress? Is it sufficient?
- Does School counselor have sufficient training in
order to be therapeutic?
- Are more appropriate services available elsewhere?
- Are other services neglected by counselor during
this time?
- Students are primary client of counselor
- Others will approach for services
- Counselor should ask self:
- Am I qualified to assist?
- Are there ethical standards that assist me in
deciding to help the other person?
- Will this service benefit students?
- Should I refer to another professional?
- What amount of time will I be spending?
